Chanson de Matin, Op. 15, No. 2, is a musical work composed by Edward Elgar for violin and piano, and later orchestrated by the composer. Its first publication was in 1899, though it is thought that it was almost certainly written in 1889 or 1890. It has invited comparison with its "companion" piece, Chanson de Nuit, Op. 1, and though critically it has been described as less profound, its fresh melodic appeal has made it more popular.
This album has an average beat per minute of 94 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 34/150 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page. Cockaigne (In London Town) - Concert Overture Op. 40 (1988 Remastered Version) by Philharmonia Orchestra/Sir John Barbirolli. He leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in performances of the Elgar Enigma Variations and Pomp and Circumstances Marches Nos. 1-5. His interpretations are never less than excellent, but he has the tendency to be more "proper" than his contemporaries and exhibit less emotion in the music than others, but what he conducts is always quite refined. If Davis' performance was a head, every hair would be in place and neatly trimmed, as well. Sir Arthur Bliss conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in the Pomp and Circumstances Marches from 1959. Despite the dated sound, the performances are extraordinary - bettered only by Boult. Like Mehta, the performances are full-blooded and exciting, much more so than the Davis set.
