Piet Kee seems to have recorded two recitals for Chandos in two different locations at the same time. This second recital (Chandos 0506), presenting, if anything even more splendidly, the glorious sound of the Müller organ (built between 1735 and 1738) at the St. Bavo Church in Haarlem, where Piet Kee is city organist – the organ is considered the property of the city rather than of the church in which it is situated -, is dated 14-15 November 1988.
The Grote Kerk or S. Bavokerk is a Reformed Protestant church and former Catholic cathedral located on the central market square (Grote Markt) in the Dutch city of Haarlem. Another Haarlem church called the Cathedral of Saint Bavo now serves as the main cathedral for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam. It was a church up until 1996. Since 1996 it was designated a multipurpose building with the status of a museum. What do you mean that you broke-in? On the day that I visit Alkmaar, the Grote Kerk was hosting an exhibit of Van Oostsanen art. Also on that day, it was drizzling, and the town was having a festival with midway type amusements all about Grote Kerk. Bottom line is that no one was lining up to see Van Oostsanen art. I walked-up and no one was about.
